The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is a video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System platform back in 1991. It was released in North America in the spring, and later in Europe in the autumn of 1992. The game continued The Legend of Zelda series, becoming the third title released within the franchise, but it served as a prequel to the two previous games — The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The protagonist's name is cleverly used in the title to create a distinctive play on words: A Link to the Past can simultaneously be understood as "Link travels to the past" and as "A connection to the past," depending on whether you interpret Link as a proper name or as the common noun "link," meaning "connection" or "bond."
The main hero of the game is a young boy named Link, who at the beginning of the story lives with his uncle in a house located to the south of Hyrule Castle. One evening, Link receives a telepathic message from Princess Zelda, who desperately pleads for his help. Zelda has been imprisoned in the castle dungeon by an evil sorcerer named Agahnim, who executed her father, the King of Hyrule, and seized control over the entire kingdom. Agahnim plans to destroy the seal placed centuries ago by the Seven Sages and release Ganon, the Prince of Darkness. He is aided in this sinister endeavor by the royal soldiers, whom he controls through powerful dark magic. Link's uncle sets out for the castle to rescue the princess, but sustains a fatal wound and tragically perishes. Link frees Zelda from the dungeon on his own, but the princess's escape from captivity only temporarily halts the execution of Agahnim's grand scheme. After escorting Zelda to a secret sanctuary, Link continues his quest, guided along the way by a descendant of the Seven Sages, a wise hermit named Sahasrahla.
The only weapon capable of standing against Agahnim's dark magic is the Master Sword, an ancient magical blade forged specifically to fight "those whose hearts have been consumed by evil." Sealed within a stone pedestal, the enchanted sword will allow only a true hero to claim it. To prove that he is worthy of wielding this legendary blade, Link must find three magical pendants hidden in various remote corners of the kingdom of Hyrule. However, upon obtaining the sword, he discovers that Agahnim has found Zelda's hiding place, kidnapped her, and transported her into the Dark World. Link follows after them, and ahead of him awaits a fierce battle with Agahnim, and after that — a confrontation with the Prince of Darkness, Ganon himself. After the treasure of nadia download on Mac, consider exploring this classic title as well through emulation.
The game was created by a talented development team led by Shigeru Miyamoto, the original creator and designer of the first game in the series. A Link to the Past employed a slightly modified gameplay mechanic from the first installment of the series, featuring a distinctive top-down angled perspective. This game was the first to introduce the concept of traveling between two parallel worlds, which subsequently became a defining hallmark feature of the entire Zelda series.
The game sold more than 4 million copies worldwide and was later re-released for the Game Boy Advance handheld system and the Virtual Console service on the Wii. The website GameSpot recognized A Link to the Past as having made the most significant contribution to the development of the series and called it one of the greatest video games of all time.
